Please subscribe and read our sidebar before you post! I've played Oblivion on 360 before, but I finally got a gaming PC.What I'm mainly looking for:. Essential bug fix mods. Graphic overhauls for backgrounds/textures.
Character model fix. They don't have to look flawlessly pretty like some run-of-the-mill Korean MMO (though I'd be okay with that), I'm just looking for them to not look like weird cartoon potatoes. Something to make the combat feel a little more balanced (I felt the vanilla combat was clunky as hell). Maybe a companion mod or two. Possibly someskimpyfemalearmormodsstrictlyforresearchpurposesFor the most part I want the overall story/questlines to be unchanged. Thanks. Also, I'm likely gonna be playing with a controller, so vanilla menus are fine by me.
Not any of your requested, but whenever I play Oblivion (been a looong time now) I make sure to get the DarNified UI. Name implies it, but it overhauls your HUD, makes it seem a little less dated.Obviously you need the Unofficial patch. If you’ve got a decent PC, I’d get the Open Cities. My pc is garbage so can’t run it with decent FPS, but imo it definitely adds another dimension to the lovely major cities. Also Flora Overhaul (I think is what it’s called) overhauls the environment, makes everything look a lot more vibrant. I really liked that one.Since I’ve made a new character a million times, I got the Alternative Start on Ship, but that’s not necessary at all. Just gives a bit more depth to your character (RP wise); you get to choose what profession you practiced in a previous life and other minor details like that.I know of a great combat overhaul, but I’ll have to look that up cus can’t remember it. Will edit it in later if I don’t forget.I actually just recommend you to check out the top-rated mods on Nexus if that still exists, because there’s a million of great ones.Fuck man writing this essay really makes me wanna play Oblivion again, just cba with keyboard and mouse anymore😢E:Oblivion Script Extender!! I’m pretty sure you need that for most mods to properly function coherently.E2: Oblivion Character Overhaul kind of fixes the weird ass generic faces.
Not trying to discredit the maker of the mod because he can only do so much with the game, but the faces still look weird. Less weird, tho. How would someone forking OpenMW lead it directly into legal hell? The new project would be if it was a remake, but if it was an engine based off of OpenMW with a bunch of newer features that just happened to play Oblivion but not Morrowind, I could see it sliding.Forking can mean that for all intents and purposes, it's a different project entirely. If MS (For example) made a new version of word that saved in yet another new file format and tried to sue the LibreOffice project for it's eventual inclusion of that format, they couldn't automatically sue Oracle if OOo was still going.
Two basics are Unofficial Patch for obvious reasons and the Alternate Start mod to avoid redoing the intro dungeon and/or for roleplay reasons. For graphics, Oblivion Reloaded is a good place to start. As you can manually enable or disable various features and test changes even as the game is running, you can run it on almost any machine that isn't a potato. It is basically a bunch of different graphical effects you can tweak to your liking and can be combined with many other graphics mods. For companions, Vilja is probably the most popular companion mod. I enjoy her but YMMV on the voice acting. The Unnoficial Patches ( For base game, Shivering Isles, and the DLCs). Also, the Chase Camera Mod, The 4GB Patch, ENBoost, Kurtee Clean Up, Engine Bug Fixes, and Oblivion Stutter Remover ( For more detailed information, look at Frosty's Oblivion Game play Overhaul guide on the oblivion nexus, specifically the Stability section.I would only use 1K textures. There are several on the oblviion necus.
Frosty's Oblviion Gameplay Overhaul have plenty. If I had to recommend some, it would be Quarl's Texture Pack, Better Fruits and Vegetables, Better Signs, Better Amulets, Improved Armor, etc.3.Oblivion Character Overhaul v2. THE Ugly NPC fix.I will tell you this. No matter what mods you install, Oblivion's combat will only be 'ok'. My combat mods that make combat enjoyable to me ( Though not to the degree of Dark Souls or Dragon's Dogma) are Deadly Reflex 5, Denock Arrow, Vanilla Combat Enhanced, The Additions from Maskar's Oblivion Overhaul, Spell Deflect, Doc Dodge, and Demolish System ( Special Moves only).
With these mods ( and a bit of tweaking in their inis, I don't mind sharing them with you) combat is very enjoyoyable. NPCs attempt to flank you while you fight other NPCs, they will react to missed projectiles, the damage sponge nature of the combat is greatly diminished and saved for tough bosses, NPcs will dodge your arrows and swipes with ducks and dodge rolls, and finish you off with finishing attacks. You have chance of cutting off an NPC's head, burning them alive with a fire spell that turns them to a charred corpse, turnign them to a block of ice that will shatter when you hit it, etc. Makes combat feel very organic and fast paced.Companion Vilja. Adds a female Nord who has her own quest, and comments on events, quests, your environment, and also plenty of useful additions. The companion feature from Maskar's Oblviion overhaul is also superb.
You will find companions traveling just like you are, in towns, dungeons, and in the wilderness. I remember once me, a few guards, and a companion ran into a Powerful Lich Skeleton Warrior with hordes of skeleton warriors. It was quite a battle ( I know I said Maskar Oblivion Overhaul over and over, but that mod is one of the best mods in all of Oblivion.DMRA Clothing and Armor Replacer or HGEC revealing armors might be to your liking. I recently started playing again too and spent hours browsing nexus for all the new stuff that came out over the last 6 years.amazed it is still going strong.
My first 'must haves' personally are:Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul - Adds a LOT as far as making it more immersive. Also ups the challenge of combat as well as tons of other little things.I just tried out the Oblivion Reloaded for graphics. It adds a bit more next-gen feel to it, and it's all customize-able, and they even have a website with forums if you have any questions (which I did and all were answered. Great community right there.)If you're into mages and such go with Midas Magic Spells of Aurum. Unofficial Patches, obviously.
I have a crappy laptop so I just use Really Textured Normal Maps. I've heard good things about Qarl's Texture Packs though. Oblivion Character Overhaul v2 (and Blockhead).
I use something called Companion Share and Recruit that lets you have any NPC as your companion so long as their disposition is high enough. Currently tearin' up Kvatch with Vicente Valtieri.Someone mentioned Alternate Start by Ship. Personally I prefer Arthmoor's Alternate Beginnings.
More choice imo (If that sort of thing interests you, anyway).
