Glock 19 Vs Steyr M9 A1

98

Well the Steyr series is still being made, just not in America; so there are parts out there but probably not down at your local shop. If you bring price into consideration it's hard to argue against the Steyr. I don't know if I'd try carrying my Steyr but, I also consider my Glock 19 too big for anything but winter carry.

Both guns are amazing range guns and perfect for self-defense. It's hard to beat the Steyr for ergonomics however. I think the only plastic gun I own that feels better in my hand is my SW99.

If it will be a carry pistol, you must consider that the Steyrs do not have a firing pin block safety system. Steyr claims that the partially cocked striker does have sufficient amount of energy to ignite the primer even if it accidently falls. They also claim that the sear to striker nose contact depth is much more than the slide to frame rail tolerances and it is impossible for the sear to let the striker move forward accidently unless the trigger is pulled.

But sorry, in a such kind of shooting system, it is not my cup of tea.The Steyr triggers are too much stiff and they never progress by shooting. Many claims that the extraction and empty shell throwing to the shooter's head problems are solved, but between the three Steyr M9A1 pistols around my neighbourhood, I observe the opposite. Steyr pistols are much more subject to maintenance than the Glocks. If it matters, the general workmanship of the Glocks on the metal surfaces away much better than the Steyr M9s including the barrel and its feed ramp.So my vote goes to the ugly, but functional B-lock. I really like the ergo's of the Steyr better than Glock, but the biggest issue is after market/spare parts.definately an advantage to Glock. The trigger is much better than either my Glock 19 or 23 and the reset is much less (out of the box stock). My M9-A1 is blockier (if that's possible) than my Glocks.something that may may be an issue trying to conceal. I've had no issues with my Steyr (or my Glocks for that matter), but unless you stumble on a smoking deal for the Steyr, I would probably recommend a Glock to shooters new to pistols. There are just more parts, accessories and gunsmiths available for Glocks.ROCK6.

That M9A1 with the external safety is not a common gun. While the earlier S and M series had that safety, by the time that they got to to the A1 the powers that be at Steyr (the lawyers, I'm sure) decided that the safety wasn't a good idea. I suspect the issue was that it required one to put his trigger finger inside the trigger guard to push up the lever that is in front of the trigger to disengage the safety. That could lead to the argument that an intentional shoot was actually an AD. I actually begged Steyr (used to be ten minutes from my house until they moved to AL) to sell me an A1 with safety, but they refused to do it.

It's actually a very good system. It would also offer those folks who like Glocks but want a manual safety an option. As to servicing Steyr pistols, while its true that you can't go ten feet without tripping over a Glock armorer (and I mean that in a good way) with tons of parts, and Steyr's service here requires one to ship the gun to Trussville, AL (formerly Cumming, GA), their service record is actually quite good being very responsive to customer's needs.

I'm not 100% certain how things have been since their move to Bama last year, but I would have no doubt that service remains very good. The major issue is the lack of support that SAI here gets from Steyr back in Austria. Commandos full game free download. Small arms production is a very small part of that empire, and the company has just gone through huge changes with new ownership.

I can walk into just about any small town gun store and find Glock mags, holsters, and accessories. Even more so in catalogs and on the net.

Gunsmithing services are widespread. So, for a shooter who wants depth in service locally, you can get it.Steyrs are less common than HK P7's. That may change, and their quality may be outstanding in the long run, but it remains to be proven. I'd buy the P7 first, even a used police turn-in, especially for a CCW.I'm a Glock fan for some of the same reasons people build hotrods with Chevy 350's. It's cheaper, works, and a lot of the odd parts are right at hand. This email link is to reach site administrators for assistance, if you cannot access TFL via other means.
