The sound that comes out of these monitors (for the money). It's just WOW! When I plugged them in for the first time, I've been greeted with a blast of sound haha! Had to trim the input a little bit. I noticed that when I put the trim input fully down the sound stays, it's quieter but it's not completely silent.
Maybe this is a disadvantage but for the money it's not that big of a deal. You could use a monitor controller between the Interface signal and the input signal of these monitors. What I like is that on the back you can set the high freq on 0 / +2 / -2 and -4 dB.
I have it on +2 as it seems this give a bit more air to the tweeter.Build quality is also nice. They don't feel cheap. Speaker cabinets are from wood and the front plate is plastic/abs, Woofer is Kevlar and the tweeter is silk dome. Both deliver a room full of sound. A WALL FULL OF SOUND! The wave guide technology makes that you don't have to sit directly in the middle of your room to hear everything. This makes that this speaker is also great for when you have clients sitting at your desk listening to recordings, tracks or samples.I really like the speakers for listening to music, doing some media work or use it as extra reference pair for the mid frequency range.
Vocals seems crisp, I can hear all the reverb perfectly and total balance is okay for the money. The bass can go boxy if you set the input trim higher than the 0 unity level. For these 5inch woofers there is a lot of low and I really like that. I couldn't believe that these puppies can really go loud and have so much boom in them when I played on of my favorite Hiphop tracks.I think these monitors are great for hiphop by the way.
You could go KRK but if your budget is tighter these would serve you well for the time being. So can you use this in your studio? YES!!!!I really bought these to have a nice pair of speakers near my Mackie monitors so that I don't have to stress those out when watching a movie or listening to tracks on Spotify.Didn't use the USB feature, but I can see why this is a great feature. Plug it in and you have sound 'A child can do the laundry'.But.After testing now for a few days I noticed around 180hz (used a sine wave plugin) the master powered unit rings / makes noise inside the cabinet when I put the volume up. It dissapears when I set the volume low. This is only noticeable on music with a lot of mids in it.
(I started noticed it with /while listening to Ed Sheeran). I think this a faulty monitor so I decided to send it back for repair / replacement. I really think the monitors are worth the money still. It's not Thomann fault but the quality control at Behringer I guess. There is also something loose in the monitor so I think there lies the problem. Back in the day when Yamaha MS10 came out, every schmuck in a studio had to get them.
Although not that good, people would spend a fortnight of wages on them. Uneducated people still buy them. A few decades later, there are still companies out there that overcharge for a mass-produced Asian products. At least Uli Behringer is honest enough not to inflate the prices of his products.
These speakers already have a very good reputation. There are plenty of good YouTube reviews that show that they are excellent monitor reference speakers. They are fairly neutral, as far as I can tell. The only thing that sucks is that the cable between the two speakers is 30 cm too short to fit in my studio. I now have to re-arrange everything just to make them fit.
